Great Autopsy Tool
This oil filter cutting tool works as advertized. I found it as easy to use as opening a can with a standard can opener. Now I can check my oil and fuel filters for proper filtration.

Waste of money
This tool did not work at all, the wheel wouldnt cut paper, the 2 rollers didnt roll, maybe i just got a bad one, but i wish i wouldnt of spent the money on this.

Oil Filter Cutter
This tool was common in heavy trucking to look at the material trapped in the pleated paper. I bought it for my Motorcycle filters just to see what was in them. It works well and cuts clean. Good to see how your favorite brand is made.

Junk
Filter kept falling out no matter how tight I screwed it down. Wouldnt cut through despite many turns with a socket wrench. I will have to fork out more money for a different cutter.

oil filter cutter
functionability of oil filter cutter it is ok, there is no problem.
when we cut our first filter the cutter edge was litter bit damaged, so we recomend include spare piece of the cutter edge to replaced when the user need it.

So far this product is a lot better than a higher price one I previously bought. Very heavy duty. Cuts the filter open with very little effort. Would reccomend.

This was a gift request, I went with jegs as it is a well known brand, my son seemed pleased with his for his mechanics tool collection

Works well
Works well, roller bearings would make it a little easier to use by reducing the friction.
Terry Hill –
Nice tool – No regrets
We only used it one time – automobile filter. The product was described and heavy duty. Cut the filter open with very little effort. Would recommend.

Easily cuts open oil filter for analysis
Cuts the filter easily. Make sure you leave the filter right side up and use the cutter upside down to avoid oil spilling all over the place.
James Heral –
Could be better
The rollers and cutter wheel are too small so, they bottom out to cut the filters with larger flanges.
It cuts well on other types of filters with shallow flanges.
JEGS should improve this product by increasing the cutter wheel diameter and rollers.

Works good. Sometimes it gets a little hard to spin it and if you clamp too hard it might jump track. But for the $ its good. No regrets here.

Works great, fast shipping.
Fast shipping and I put my new tool right to work. It worked very well and cut through a heavy Kia OEM oil filter so I could examine it. I expect it to last a long time. It tool three or four complete turns (tighten the cutting tool wheel each per turn just a bit) so as to not overload the tool (which could damage the non-replaceable cutting wheel). I used a fluted oil filter remover tool to help turn the filter since it was oil covered and did this over my plastic oil change basin to catch the old oil that will drain out of the filter once cut and not create a mess. Keep lots of paper towels handy!

Poor quality
Worked great the first 3 times. After that the end started to move and twist causing it to not properly work. Also does not work well on larger filters.

Provides valuable insight of current engine wear condition.
Works as advertised. 273kMi on my original engine & automatic transmission. I use FilterMag magnet arrays on each. See my other reviews for them. This tool, permits me to open my spent spin-on oil filter cans at OCI. Allows empirical assessment of current engine wear status. Race teams and small aircraft pilots use these can opener tools , for obvious reasons. Highly recommend!

Useful to see if there are any issues with the …
It definitely will cut open oil filters without too much trouble. Useful to see if there are any issues with the oil filters or engines by checking the media. Takes a little getting used to, I had a cut open a few cans before I was able to do it in one turn without damaging the oil filter. Mine also had a broken turn handle that I had to glue back together to make it more usable. Packaging needs to be a bit better if JEGS doesnt want its equipment damaged in shipping.

Works great and easy to use and fairly priced

Works OK
The knob broke the second time I used it. Its plastic where it bottoms out against the screw and it just popped apart. I found another knob thing at the hardware store. The screw is threaded 1/2×13. Otherwise, it cuts open oil filters pretty well. It deals with the premium filters with thicker walls just fine. Also came with some nice JEGS stickers.

Its good
You open up a filter and you can see if you have some metal shavings in your engine or if you have some engine sludge…

Didn’t work without considerable modification
Despite the product description, this cutter doesnt accommodate filters under about 3-1/2 inches which is a vast number of filters for passenger vehicles. The guide wheels are either too small or too far apart, so that the filter doesnt ride on them as it should but instead hits the base between them.
Using a grinder, I removed a great deal of material in a semi-circular shape between the wheels, so the filters now clear the body of the tool. But without modifying, this thing doesnt work for many of the filters it is claimed to. Disappointing.

Nicely built. Works well.

Great tool for great price
Worked as expected. Have used it on two filters thus far. The only people complaining are those that havent used a pipe cutter before… just take it slow and it works great on large filters like those for my 300C or smaller filters as well.
brian walk –
Works as expected
For anyone that has used a pipe cutter, this is basically the same thing. Just go slowly and itll cut like you expect. Make sure you crank it a little bit, spin a few times, then crank it a little bit more . If you try to just tighten it fully right away youll crush the filter.
Loren L. Banko –
Works great
Works great. Just remember that your cutting into very thin material , so go light when turning the cutting blade into the oil filter.
J W LELY –
awesome product
received this tool. Out of the box the construction stuck me as hearty. the unit is really well built. I made may way to the garage to give it a test run. As with most friction cutters I was preparing for a fight. To my amazement with one adjustment and 2 rotations around the filter it was open and ready for inspection! I would recommend this tool highly to anyone wanting an inside look at a filter.

This is a must have.

You may not want to know…
Works great. Very well made. Easy to use. Now… the reason I purchased I just did a top end on my durango and even though I was very careful with plugging all the holes during cleaning, I was worried about what might of gotten by and ended in the oil. I purchased this to inspect the filter to judge how I did. Well , Im glad I looked. After only 300 miles my new filter looked bad. The next filter After 300 miles looks good. Changed oil and filter and will check at 3k. Now I started to check all filters and my 100k 2014 suburban with only synthetic oil and regular Change intervals had a clean filter but had metal flakes…Im glad and sad at the same time.

Good Product!
This was the cheapest oil filter cutting tool had to offer. I was a little skeptical when I bought it, but figured because I wasnt going to be using it on a daily basis, Id take a chance. Im happy to report that the tool seems well constructed and worked flawlessly!

First use, dead
Cut one diesel oil filter open and went to put it away, one of the wheels fell off. Aggravating, but hopefully it stays together for at least a couple more filters to get my moneys worth out of it.

Heavy duty
I actually gave this to my dad for his birthday and have not used it myself but he seems to like it quite a bit and says it works well he mentioned that it is very heavy duty and money was well spent.
